Things you need to know for your First Lesson

WHAT TO BRING AND WEAR:

Dogs can be on a buckle collar, head halter, or harness (prefer those with a ring in the front). We do not allow the use of choke chains, prong (pinch) collars, or shock collars in or on our facilities.

A regular 6-foot nylon or leather leash that is not bulky and easy to manage when training your dog.  No retractable, slip, or bungee type leads.

We recommend that you do not feed your dog or give them part of their meal before class. Put the rest of their food into a treat pouch together with lots of tasty treats to reward them during training. Treats should be considered “high value” to your dog and something that is easy for them to eat and does not crumble on the floor.

First Day School

If you don’t have a treat pouch, wear clothing with baggy pockets to hold your reward mixture.

INDOOR shoes are required. We take pride in our facility and require all participants to bring indoor shoes (that have not been worn outside at all) to change into before entering the class. Shoes should be closed toe and heel – no slip-on shoes such as flip flops, slippers, sandals, or slides.

ATTENDANCE:

2 people can attend with each dog. Adult family members are welcome to alternate who brings their dog each week. We are an adult learning facility and those handling the dog must be a minimum of 16 years of age. If you are bringing a child, they must be 10 years or older. Exceptions are to be approved by Muttz with Mannerz™.

If you know that you will not be coming to class, please inform us via email or in person.

ARRIVAL:

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your class and toilet your dog outside on the grassy area. Then head into class 5 minutes before your lesson is scheduled to start.

PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME as we do not wait for students who are running late and lock the Muttz with Mannerz™ reception door once we have started so we are not disrupted.

IN CLASS:

The Trainer will show you where you will be working with your dog during class.

During class, dogs will not be permitted to interact with other dogs or people in our facility. This helps them to learn to focus on their owner and no other distractions.

Your class will be 45 minutes in length. When the class is finished, please leave the building one dog at a time quickly as another class will be entering shortly after yours.

MISSED A CLASS?

You will be sent a digital lesson plan after each class plus any resources that support what was discussed in the class. Should you miss a lesson, you will not be able to make it up in another class. Refunds are not provided for a missed class. Please refer to the lesson plan and work with your dog at home during the week. This will get you caught up for the next lesson.
