PUPPY & DOG PLAYDATES

Community Dog Walk

PUPPY PLAYDATES

A safe, controlled place to socialize your pup with other young pups.

We are offering weekly puppy playdates to help socialize and expose your pup to other pups and people.

Sessions are held each Saturday for puppies under 24 weeks with all of their booster shots.

Each session is 25 minutes during which the young puppies will be able to explore and play. Our goal is to build confidence and encourage proper play styles.

These classes are “drop in” style and do not require enrollment into our group classes. However, registration and prior payment is mandatory to secure your spot and to allow us to screen puppies for age and vaccination records.

Benefits of Puppy Playdates

  • Build Confidence: our goal is to build a foundation for your pup so they grow up confident and well-mannered.
  • Prevent Fear, Anxiety, Aggression: It is important that prior to complete vaccinations, the puppy must have exposure to socialization. A well-run puppy playdate can be a building block to help this happen.

What to Expect:

  • Supervised Play with their Pawparents: Our experienced staff keeps a watchful eye on all interactions, ensuring that playtime is safe and enjoyable for your small pup.
  • Socialization: Your little one will have the chance to make new friends, meet new people and boost their social skills and confidence.
  • Enrichment: We provide stimulating activities that keep your pup engage and mentally stimulated.
  • Exercise: Puppies need their exercise too! Our playdates offer the perfect opportunity for them to stay active.

Why Choose Puppy Playdates at Muttz with Mannerz?

  • Safety and Cleanliness: Our clean facility is designed with the well-being of small dogs in mind, with secure play areas and staff trained in small dog care.
  • Fun: We offer age-appropriate activities and interactions that cater to the unique needs of small breeds.
  • Socialization: Socializing your small dog from a young age can lead to well-adjusted, confident, and happy companions.

Requirements:

  • Puppies must be 24 weeks or younger.
  • Pet Pawrents are to be in attendance and 18 years or older.
  • Puppies should be brought on a 6-foot non-retractable leash, collar or harness

Puppies without complete vaccination should not be taken to dog parks or dog daycares mixed with adult dogs. Therefore, a puppy playdate with strict age limitations in a sanitized play area is a crucial step to early socialization towards a variety of breeds of dogs and people.

Avoid waiting until your puppy has received all their boosters, or else they will likely be too old to participate in our program.

The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behaviour believes it should be the standard of care for puppies to receive such socialization before they are fully vaccinated. In 2008, the AVSAB released a position statement urging veterinarians to encourage clients to enroll in Puppy Start Right classes prior to 3 months of age.

    PLAYDATE GUIDELINES

For those who are attending the playdates please review these guidelines:
Playdate Guidelines (Effective January 1st, 2024)

We recommend that you feed the dog 90 minutes before playdates and if unable to we recommend you wait 30 minutes until after playdate to feed them. Dogs coming to playdate with a full stomach combined with the activity of playdates can be a risk as they can vomit or some deep-chested dogs are prone to bloat(twisted stomach) which can be fatal.

Jumping on people must be dealt with and dogs are to be taught proper greetings. If you know your dog jumps this is a great opportunity to work on this on leash.

Humping/Mounting is a no-no as it’s inappropriate. If your dog humps it is to be stopped immediately. If it continues your dog must be put on a leash until they calms down.

Recall and controlling your dog is your responsibility and you must be able to recall your dog at any time. Your dog must come to you when called as this is a safety device that will save the dog’s life. Playdates are a great place to reinforce this. If your recall isn’t proofed consider revisiting your obedience training and enrol in an obedience class.

Avoid feeding treats to other dogs. Please ensure you check with the dog’s owner if you are going to feed treats to their dogs. Some of the dogs have food allergies and some can get too much in your face when treats are around. No begging by dogs. A dog always has to do something (sit/down/come) for a treat.

Owner/Person supervision is required at all times.
Dogs can not be dropped off at anytime on their own for us to supervise. We offer daycare for those who want that option.

Children under 16 are not permitted to attend the playdates.

Indoor Shoes are Mandatory for the session.

All dogs are to enter the facility on a non-retractable leash and must be let in by the trainer on duty. Those already in the play area must have their dog under control until the new dog enters and the door/gate is closed. Any new dogs entering into the facility will be introduced to each dog which I expect to be on leash for the introduction.

Owners are responsible for their dogs at all times. Trainers will referee but we expect you to watch your dog and ensure your dog is safe and playing nicely at all times.

Make sure your dog gets a drink of water during the play date. It will be provided by Muttz with Mannerz

Be aware of what is going on around you and where the dogs are at all times. As we all know some run fast and hard and we can sometimes get in their way. It’s like looking in the rear view mirror when you are driving to see if a car is coming.

If we see any dogs getting out of control i.e. too focused on another dog, too fast and crazy we want them to have a time out and do some obedience training to ensure that we are in control.

Watch the small/young dogs and ensure the other dogs do not barrel them over.

Dogs 7 month or older must be spayed/neutered

Aggressive dogs will be asked to leave

Clean up after your dog immediately.
